Our unit hosts a small arms training weekend to learn safety and how to properly handle and shoot a high powered rifle at 200 yards using iron sites on paper targets. Every year, cadets have the opportunity to go with LCDR Murphy to Camp Perry, Ohio to compete in competition. If you would like more information, email us!
Twice a year, cadets participate in a Physical Readiness Test. Cadets do their best push ups, planks, and 1 mile run. Cadets encourage each other and always do extremely well!
This year, the Harlan R. Dickson Division camped out on Mount Monadock. Cadets hiked up the mountain, practiced tactical searching and use of camouflage led by SSG Wright, an active duty Army Infantryman and former Sea Cadet.
We march in several different local parades thoughout the year. Look for us at Veterans Day Parade, Memorial Day Parade, Fourth of July, Christmas Parade and more.
We do many different types of community service. For example, in October 2022 we spent time with a WWII veteran on her 100th birthday! Thank you for your service Marian Zalanka!
2023 had the largest amount of cadets ever! Looking forward to next year! Hope to see you there.
There is training all year round, anything and anywhere from Recruit Training, aviation, Navy Seal training, fire fighting, Master of Arms, leadership training, medical, STEM, sailing, scuba, just to name a few. There are also opportunities for online training.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) is a federally-chartered non-profit youth organization for young people, ages 10 through 18. USNSCC is comprised of two programs. Our senior program, the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC), is for young people, ages 13 through the completion of high school. Our junior program, the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC), is for young people, ages 10 through 13. Training opportunities abound depending on cadet’s age.
The wearing of U.S. Navy uniforms (modified with USNSCC patches) and hands-on, exciting training aboard U.S. Navy/Coast Guard ships and shore stations make us unique among all other youth programs. Cadets have regular opportunities to train with Active Duty and Reserve military personnel. With close cooperation with all branches of the sea services, we offer demanding and rigorous training designed to prepare youth for all walks of life, whether they choose to pursue military service or civilian life. We are sponsored by the Navy League of the United States and supported by both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. Our individual units are sponsored by their local Navy League councils and/or by other local organizations.
Our cadet corps is run by an all-volunteer force. Cadets meet regularly with their local unit, participating in a variety of hands-on, outdoor training events, as well as community service activities. During school vacations, cadets participate in one- or two-week training evolutions at U.S. military installations around the country where they learn lifelong skills and how to become leaders in their units, schools and communities.
USNSCC engenders among its participants the value of an alcohol-free, drug-free and gang-free lifestyle. Through exposure to a unique team-centric, objective-based environment, cadets learn to demand the best from themselves and others.
The program provides cadets with not only the motivation and encouragement to pursue their goals, but also concrete assistance in achieving them. Annually, 17 different scholarship funds are awarded to exceptional cadets who wish to pursue a college education.
USNSCC Is a nationwide non profit youth organization dedicated to helping American youth realize personal success and achievement through a nautically oriented training program. Through Sea Cadet leadership, your son or daughter will learn skills in basic seamanship and its naval adaptations, while also learning the values of patriotism, courage, self-reliance, teamwork, and accountability. There are around 400 Sea Cadet units in the United States, with units in nearly every state, as well as Puerto Rico and Guam.
Membership in the NSCC allows youth to sample military life with no obligation to join any branch of the armed forces. Should cadets decide to enlist in the Navy or Coast Guard, their training may allow them early entry at an advanced pay grade. Historically, a number of Sea Cadets have received scholarships and appointments to military academies.
Our training program should not interfere with your cadet's schoolwork. Cadet units typically meet only one night per week or one weekend per month during the school year. Normally, training away from home is conducted only during school vacation periods. You may actually find that your son or daughter takes a more serious approach to his or her schoolwork due to the discipline and emphasis on excellence that this program instills in its cadets. Cadets are also required to be full-time students to enroll in the program.
In certain parts of America the local cadet units represent our nation’s Navy – and they do this very well.
Cadets perform a variety of types of community service benefiting their hometowns, by participating in roadside and park clean-up efforts and volunteering at public events. Cadets also provide support to our veterans through outreach programs and honor guard detachments for memorial services.
The virtues of good citizenship and strong moral principles form the core of the program, which works to instill these traits into each cadet. Cadets are not required to join the armed services once they turn 18, but they will enter the adult world having been taught the fundamentals of citizenship and the value of being responsible and productive members of their communities.
Our program provides numerous benefits to its cadets – both tangible and intangible. Our cadets and alumni often cite the feelings of pride, camaraderie, respect and honor associated with their experience in the program. These immeasurable benefits are very important to us. They define us.
